  1. Maybe I should have paid attention.
But I thought it was a scam.
A few months ago, I got an email purporting to be someone from
    topwebcomics.
They congratulated me on TGW’s 4-year run in the top ten, but
said that there were a lot of up-and-coming webcomics that were
very popular, and the best way for TGW to insure that it remained
in the top 10 would to be to buy an ad on TWC. It included a link
to what appeared to be a genuine TWC ad purchase site, but I was
convinced that it was a fake phishing site because their email
address led me nowhere, so I ignored it.
Looks like it was real, TGW is about to be kicked out of the top
10 because some new comics have joined the game.
I don’t think TWC is an honest ratings site any more,
    if it ever was.

I don’t think it has been for a long time, if it ever was.
The current #1,Vision Haze, pretty much started this month there,
and I’ve never seen it before.
Current #8, Lancer, had never made it to the top 100 in the time
I’ve been voting, about 19 months, until a couple months ago and
all of a sudden it was in the top 10? Nope, bought it’s way there,
just like it did a couple of days ago. Middle of page two,
all the way to the top 10 in one day? No way.

      • Sam

And furthermore, I voted for TGW about six hours ago. In order to
get to TWC just now, I clicked the vote tab up at the top (fastest way
to get there). While on that page, what the heck, I voted. And it took
the vote, only six hours after voting this morning. Or did it allow it
because I just signed in to TGW and that also signs me in to TWC?
Methinks I’ll have to review that a bit closer. I can’t actually log in
to TWC that I’m aware of.

You can vote once every 16 hours or so from each **IP address**.
So if you are on mobile, the carrier changes your IP fairly often.
I noticed I can vote like every 3-4 hours from my mobile phone.
The other way to “cheat” the system is VPN. I have my home
address and I use a VPN to connect to my work.
          That’s two separate IPs.
And at work I have a very different IP from the one on VPN.
So with a bit of effort I am able to cast about 10 votes a day…

        • I just voted just now and I had voted last night at 1am.
I’ve read Lancer, meh. plus they haven’t updated in a
month or more. TWC is like any other website, it’s about
making money, not giving a service.

      • Lancer has at least been around for years. I don’t read it but I
recognize it. Vision Haze leaping through the rankings in a
couple of days to #1? I read through it to find out what made it
so great. IMAO, I wasted a morning. Tastes vary or money talks,
        one or the other.
PC, what you should be proud of is that you did this well based
solely on the loyalty of your growing fanbase. You haven’t even
used cheesecake vote incentives to any great extent.

    • I just checked and TGW is at #11. That new comic is averaging
just under 550 votes per day. I always check to make sure my
votes (you can vote twice if you do one logged in and one
anonymous) are counted but I wonder about the top 4 or so.
      But what can you do?

    • Chryzopraz

I’m not sure you should care about TWC too much. There is another
comic I like, that has never been in top 100.
In March I used the trick described above to give it more votes
each day and managed to keep them above top 100 threshold for
      the whole month.
It did _not_ translate to noticeably more views.

      • I didn’t see much of an increase in viewership until TGW hit the top 10.
People looking for comics to read seem to stop looking after that.
I’m kind of surprised that TGW has stayed there, as it’s so libertarian.

    • So you regret not paying the bribe to TWC?

      • Not really. I don’t do blackmail.

  2. Jan

    Hi PC.
I share your view of TWCs objectivity. I used to vote on a number of
comics, but when I discovered that stuff long gone AWOL still was
vote-able I decided to stop. TGW gets my vote but none else…

Actually I find it somewhat disgraceful that TWC can’t seem to be so
serious that they scrub their database once in a while. I have a list of
comics I used to vote for and on that list you can still vote for comics
    gone dead 10 years ago.

    • A lot of the links for comic images on the vote page are dead as well.
That dilutes exposure to active webcomics.
Sometimes I see several images from a single webcomic in a month,
I’ve only seen a link to TGW once this year.

      • Are you talking about the little images they
display when you try to vote without logging in?
I don’t recall ever seeing a character from TGW.

        • I’ve seen Miral and I’ve seen Leonor, but they don’t come
up very often. Especially compared to many of the Deadels.
(Obscure reference. Speaking of which, I’ve seen Bun-bun
maybe twice and nobody else from Sluggy Freelance.)

          • Sam

I’ve seen Leonor once, and Mistrial once. I’m thinking they
don’t show characters from the “popular” strips very often,
since they have a “visit my comic” link once you vote. No
sense, from their viewpoint, in pointing people to already
            popular strips.

  3. Okay, thanks for the support, everyone.

Would someone please discuss today’s comic???

  4. Sam

Well, Teresa said he wouldn’t like what she was going to do with it,
but now we don’t know what exactly she’s going to do with it.

Mist surprised Mavia with something. We’ll just have to wait and see
    exactly what.

    • JasonAW3

Oh, I really hope she doesn’t do something bad to it.
I also suspect that our French friend might just link up
with the Romani clan of Catia for future cooperative
      artistic work.

Unfortunately, usually when a dragon fly shows up,
telepathically speaks to someone, and that someone,
who is used to talking with dragonflies says,
      “oh my…”
It usually isn’t because of something nice…

  5. Hanging a lampshade on the coincidence(?)
of the Terran and Catian Romani?

  6. Mist seems awfully interested in Gopi,
maybe a bonding is about to happen?
That would be a huge step forward in her recovery!

I’ll hold judgement on frenchie for now,
I need more info on him before I make
    a fool of myself again…
    Judging by Taritha’s reaction,
this guy might have a rare opportunity,
    joining the Romani’s clan!

    • Oh for fu..(content censored due to strong language)
FOOL, not foll… And I just did it twice now…
      😛

  7. I tried to look up Ketch, and only found a two-masted sailing ship.
I’m not sure what is being referenced here,
unless maybe Ketch is the name of Agua’s mate.
The two do sort of go together, water and watercraft.

  8. Bill, I was doing a re-read and found this, I just changed one line 😉
You had posted this back on TGW-604:

Suddenly, a cow runs out onto the road, and a limo driving late at night,
hits it head on, and the car comes to a stop. The woman in the back seat,
in her usual abrasive manner, says to the Chauffeur, “You get out and check
on that poor cow. You were driving.”
So the chauffeur gets out, checks, and reports that the animal is dead, but
it appeared to be very old. Well, says the woman, “You were driving, so you
go and tell the farmer in that lighted farmhouse over there.”
Two hours later the chauffeur returns totally inebriated, a full belly, his hair
ruffled, and a big grin on his face.
“My God, what happened to you?” asks the nasty woman.
The chauffeur replies, “When I got there, the farmer opened his best bottle
of single malt scotch, the wife gave me a meal fit for a king,
and the daughter made love to me.”
“What on earth did you say?” asks the woman.
Well, I just knocked on the door, and when it opened, I said to them,
“Hello, I’m Hillary Clinton’s chauffeur, and I’ve just killed that old cow.”

    • Jan

Substitute the woman with a certain
corporal from WW1and the cow with
a pig, then the story is as I
heard it way back in the ’70…
      It’s WAY older than that…

      • Jan

Like your luck with autocorrection, Scarsdale 🙁
        For “It’ ” read “It’s”

        • Jan you’d love hearing me talk, between my getting stuck on words
and the slur in my voice, you’d be telling me to shut up! Heh…

    • I don’t remember posting that but it’s certainly something
I would do. I did notice it was before we started editing
our posts to keep the line length down. That was from just
over 4 years ago. It was just over a week after TEOTWAWKI.

      • It’s ok, I’ve come a long way from my days as a moderator.
I think the first comment I made here was TGW-891, but I
started reading the comic in the mid-600 range. It was when
I had surgery for my cancer and I was home from the hospital
that I read from the start, I went in on 12/1/21 and didn’t
        get home until the 18th.
